Maikash Akbarabadi was the great grandson of Syed Amjad Ali Shah Asghar and the son of Syed Asghar Ali Shah. Syed Amjad Ali Shah Asghar, his son Syed Munawwar Ali Shah and his son Syed Mauzaffar Ali Shah were some of the famous Sufi saints of India. Maikash Akbarabadi was born in 1902 in Akbarabad. He belonged to a family of Sufi saints. He preached love for humanity and educated the masses the inclusivity of thoughts and mysticism of Islamic philosophy and learning. His family virtues were transmitted in his writings which in turn reformed the ailing society to become a more progressive one. He died in 1991.
To forward his vision and mission a literary Society named as Bazm-e-Maikash with an objective of social reform was established in 1992 in Agra, the city of Taj. His grandson and patron of Bazm-e-Maikash Syed Ajmal Ali Shah Niazi Qadri Chishti and the General Secretary Dr. Nasreen Begum (Alig) are committed towards carrying out the vision of social welfare as Maikash Sahab himself preached. The society organizes various literary Urdu programmes throughout the year.
Each year renowned literary persons are bestowed with the award. The first National Maikash Award was given to Afaq Ahmed Irfani in the Year 1993. Then after it was awarded to Tayyab Ali Qazmi in 1994 to Dr. Habibur Rehman Niyazi in 1995, Dr. Nasreen Begum Alig) in 1996, Prof. Zaheer Ahmed Siddiqui in 1997, Prof. Unwan Chishti in 1998, Prof. Mughees Uddin Faridi in 1999, Prof. Gopi Chand Narang in the year 2000, Kalidas Gupta Riza in 2000, Khwaja Hasan Sani Nizami in 2001, Dr. Khaliq Anjum in 2001, Prof. Nisar Ahmed Farooqui in 2002,

Following the footsteps of Allama Maikash Akbarabadi, Bazm-e-Maikash has focused itself and worked towards the expansion of Urdu literary works. The journey of Bazm-e-Maikash has ever since been devoted to maintain socio-religious harmony and promote literary culture. People from all walks of life come closer to embrace the vision of Maikash Akbaradi. The Patron and founder of Bazm-e-Maikash Syed Ajmal Ali Shah Niyazi Qadri Chishti is known for his simplicity and generosity. He is the Sajjada Nasheen of Khanqah Maikash Akbarabadi. He along with his son Syed Faiz Ali Shah Niyazi are relentlessly promoting Urdu language, literature, and social harmony to fulfil the mission and vision of the great Sufi saint Allama Maikash Akbarabadi.
